Cycling in the Mournes and East Down

Welcome to Mourne and the Ring of Gullion where there are many good on and off road cycle routes for both novice and more experienced cyclists. Cycle touring is a good option for holidaymakers and locals alike with short and long distance routes through mountain valleys, lough shores and forest parks with lots of places to stop and visit on your journey.

Mountain Bike Trails

Cycling the Mournes

There are 25km of world class mountain bike trails in Castlewellan Forest Park powered by Chain Reaction Cycles. Green (4km) blue (4.5km) and red (19km) trails provide a must visit for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities.

Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails, Kilbroney Park, with a trail network of over 50km, offer challenging mountain biking along the shores and hills of Carlingford Lough. With a 27km red trail and a 19km black trail, Rostrevor is believed to be the top spot for mountain biking in Ireland.
